La Enfermedad Cerebrovascular (ECV) presenta diferencias importantes en su fisiopatología, edad de presentación, severidad y respuesta al tratamiento, en hombres y mujeres (1). La ECV es la quinta causa de mortalidad en los hombres, pero ocupa el tercer lugar en las mujeres. Antes de un Ataque Cerebro Vascular (ACV), es más común que las mujeres vivan solas o sean viudas, y por tanto, es más frecuente que sean institucionalizadas después de un ACV, sumado a que tienen una menor recuperación que los hombres (2).
