Abstract

Colombia, como la mayoría de los países tropicales, sufre de epidemias de dengue PAULA, MATOSO, y DE FREITAS, 2010. El dengue es una enfermedad viral, de carácter endémo-epidémica, la cual es transmitida por el mosquito Aedes aegypti, y es considerada hoy en día la arbovirosis humana que causa la mayor morbilidad y mortalidad a nivel mundial ARALI, DIAZ, y Angel, 2005. Se estima que, cada año son infectadas aproximadamente unas 100 millones de personas aproximadamente, lo que la convierte en un importante problema de salud pública ARALI, DIAZ, y Angel, 2005. La circulación simultánea de los cuatro serotipos del mosquito vector, y su infestación en más del 90 por ciento del territorio Colombiano ubicado por debajo de los 2200 metros sobre el nivel del mar, pone a más de 25 millones de personas en riesgo de contraer esta enfermedad INS OPS OMS, 2010.
