Mercado mundial de frutas tropicales [recurso electrónico]

Abstract

This project aims at evaluating the perception of eleven companies that participated in a study analyzing the potential for export of tropical fruits at the national and local level. In order to conduct this analysis, it is important to identify the current opportunities and barriers these companies face when conducting business in foreign markets. There will be an evaluation of the various geographic characteristics exhibited in the national land and other aspects of production and competition of Valle del Cauca. For analysis purposes, four fruits were selected based on the current high demand in foreign markets (Pineapple, “uchuva”, avocado, and dragon fruit). We conducted field work and corresponding review of the literature on the topic of market behavior of the fruit sector at both the national level and Valle del Cauca with specific focus in the city of Cali. With this methodology we present the problematic, establish a primary objective and specific aims, justify results, and discuss limitations of the project. Finally, there will be a discussion on the perspectives of the companies in the field of fruit production in Valle del Cauca.
