Efectos del tratamiento con glucosamina sobre los niveles de expresión y de fosforilación de la proteína AKT en un modelo de isquemia cerebral focal

Abstract

La isquemia cerebral focal afecta a millones de personas en el mundo, ésta se caracteriza por una disminución en el aporte sanguíneo en un área del cerebro, lo que puede afectar el funcionamiento normal de las células cerebrales y por ende la expresión de ciertas proteínas que se encuentran principalmente relacionadas con la muerte celular y la apoptosis. La proteína Akt puede controlar procesos celulares al regular la expresión y la actividad de diferentes proteínas relacionadas con varias fases de la muerte celular, por lo tanto puede estar involucrada en el fenómeno de neuroprotección relacionado con mecanismos de supervivencia de las células. La función de esta proteína puede estar regulada por cambios conformacionales en su estructura, que permiten a las células mejorar muchos mecanismos cuando se encuentran bajo estrés, principalmente la adición de grupos fosfato o N-acetilglucosamina. Se ha comprobado que el aumento de la glicosilación (uniónO-N-acetilglucosamina) en las proteínas mejora la supervivencia y ayuda a las células a adaptarse en momentos de estrés celular.
