Abstract

The oncilla (Leopardus tigrinus), the smallest feline in Colombia, faces a decrease in its population due to habitat loss, placing it in a vulnerable state. This study aims to analyze how the presence of large predators (>8 kg) and prey availability influence the activity patterns of the oncilla at the Zygia biological station, located in the Farallones de Cali Natural National Park. Using eight camera traps, 22 fauna species were identified. The results revealed a significant relationship between the oncilla's activity hours and mice, while no association was found with birds, suggesting they are not a significant part of its diet. Furthermore, a temporal overlap was observed between the oncilla and the puma (Puma concolor), where the density of oncilla records decreased during the puma's presence and increased in its absence, suggesting a dynamic of predator avoidance or resource competition. However, the ecosystem faces alterations caused by human activity and the presence of feral dogs, affecting the dynamics of the species. These findings are important for understanding the oncilla's activity hours and establishing the reasons that may affect its activity patterns.
