Abstract

ABSTRACT The integration of the vascone population into the roman administration is addressed in these pages, both from the archaeological and the classical literature approaches, showcasing different points of view. The Saltus Vasconum concept is also addressed, comparing the late twentieth century views with the latest theories, pointing at the shortcomings of the former in favour of the latter and offering a new approach to this concept and its localization around the mining district of the Aya Crag and Oiasso, in the occidental pyrenean coastal region of the Iberian Peninsula, based on the archaeological evidence and classical literature. Finally, we describe the archaeological evidence found both in Oiasso and the Aya Crag, emphasizing their importance in the roman administration in the early imperial years from an economical standpoint.
