Abstract

Eating disorders include a group of syndromes with a significant impact on young women, mostly in pubertal age. They result from the interaction of many factors, including social, cultural, personal and biological ones. Among biological factors, immunological alterations have been recently implicated in the etiology of other psychiatric disorders, so we decided to make a systematic review in order to establish whether the innate immune response, particularly proinflammatory cytokines, is associated with eating disorders pathogenesis. Moreover, we point out that a greater knowledge of their etiology would let us to combat these disorders by considering new therapeutic targets.
