Abstract

ABSTRACT: Nowadays football is a sport that sparks interest in the society and impacts in the economy of countries, generating nearly 7600 millions of Euros which represents 0.75 % of the Spanish GDP in 2013. Due to the previous reasons, football is gaining the attention of companies to invest more in this sport at the moment of establishing their marketing strategies, investing nearly 326 millions of Euros in sponsorship during 2014. The appearance of new sponsors, specially from the Middle East, allowed to improve the situation regarding previous years, when the investments in sponsorship were falling. This paper compares the four main European Football competitions in terms of Broadcasting rights, Match day income and finally, Commercial revenues, paying special attention to the last source of income, in order to detect existing differences in every league regarding sponsorship. We will see how the Premier League is the leader of this comparison, earning 228 millions of Euros from their main sponsors, followed by Liga BBVA (142 millions of Euros), in third place the Bundes Liga (118,95 millions of Euros) and finally, the Serie A being the competition that collects the least, only 93,4 millions of Euros.
