Abstract

RESUMEN: El objetivo de esta tesis ha sido investigar la vida y cultura musical en las ciudades de Londres en 1851 y 1862 y París en 1855 y 1867 durante la celebración de la exposiciones universales que tuvieron lugar en dichas ciudades, así como establecer la relación entre los diferentes aspectos musicales existentes en estas exposiciones universales, que constituyeron un fenómeno de comunicación en la recién estrenada sociedad industrial al comunicar las ideas de progreso e innovación, dando a conocer los adelantos de la industria, la ciencia, el comercio y las artes. Dichos eventos llevan implícita una importante actividad cultural, así como una gran labor educativa y la música tiene en dichos eventos un papel destacado, tanto en los actos relacionados con los mismos como a través de concursos y conciertos que se organizan alrededor de ellos. Se han reflejado los antecedentes y la presencia de los instrumentos musicales en las exposiciones industriales francesas durante la primera mitad del siglo XIX, la construcción de instrumentos musicales y sus avances tecnológicos, la importancia adquirida por algunos fabricantes y la hegemonía del piano como instrumento preferido en la época, la música popular, el exotismo contenido en la música procedente de países no europeos y su aceptación por parte de los músicos, la educación musical, los conciertos, los espectáculos y, finalmente, la participación de los músicos como intérpretes o miembros del jurado.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this project is to investigate the life and musical culture in the cities of London 1851 and 1862, Paris 1855 and 1867, during the celebration of world exhibition. The aim of this research is to establish the relationship between different topics related to these world exhibitions: The making of instruments and the related advances in technology, popular music, exotism in non-European music, music education, concerts, spectacles and, finally, the participation of musicians to the exhibitions as interpreters or jurors.
