Abstract

ABSTRACT: In this undergraduate thesis which will be developed in the following pages, we aim at analyzing in an objective way the evolution of investments, number of participants and profitability of the different types of pension schemes in the different time periods. In the first place we will define the private pension plans and the reason why these can be useful, making reference to the economic situation and the evolution perspectives for it. Afterwards, we will present the advantages and drawbacks of this type of investment, followed by a detailed explanation of the different sorts. The core part of this paper will be dedicated to the analysis of the profitability of the different types of schemes, because that is definitely the most important factor for the investors when deciding for any of these products. On the one hand, we will carry out an individualized study of the six aforementioned schemes, highlighting and explaining the evolution of investment, participants and profitability, relating it with the global economic and financial situation, which is the one affecting the development of it. And, on the other hand, we will perform a joint explanation focused only on the profitability of the different types of plans in various time periods, as well as a line from which there could have been the best combination among the different classes to find out the highest possible profitability. The practical analysis is the result of the study of a database with different sorts of schemes which have been or still remain effective, carrying out a methodology of the statistical analysis with the tool Excel. The information which this paper contains aims at being of great utility for the investors when deciding for their investment style in the pension schemes.
