Abstract

RESUMEN: El transporte ferroviario de mercancías se encuentra en la actualidad en una situación de declive, la cual es más acusada en España que en otros países de la Unión Europea. Tras un período de esplendor, el ferrocarril perdió cuota de mercado con respecto a otros modos de transporte a finales del siglo XX y se agudizó esta situación con el inicio de la crisis económica. Esta situación ha durado hasta la actualidad. Es necesario que el ferrocarril de mercancías sea sometido a una revitalización para recuperar el esplendor de tiempos pasados. Los objetivos del presente trabajo fin de grado serán por tanto: -Analizar la situación del transporte ferroviario de mercancías tanto a nivel nacional como internacional. -Identificar las causas que han llevado a la situación de declive actual. -Identificar los problemas que sufren los ferrocarriles de mercancías europeos y, en particular, los españoles. -Abordar las estrategias a adoptar para la mejora de la situación y señalar las oportunidades futuras del transporte ferroviario de mercancías. La metodología utilizada será la discusión con la exposición de los problemas del ferrocarril de mercancías y de las diferentes estrategias que se deben abordar en un futuro. Para la realización de este trabajo será muy importante el apoyo de diferentes fuentes bibliográficas. El ferrocarril tiene numerosas ventajas sobre otros medios de transporte para el tránsito de mercancías: tiene menores costes de transporte, es un medio sostenible y puede llevar cargas más pesadas. Pero en la actualidad tiene numerosos problemas. Si quiere recuperar la cuota de mercado perdida, se debe favorecer la interoperabilidad creando un mercado común europeo para el transporte de mercancías mejorando aspectos que, a día de hoy, suponen una barrera tal como el ancho de vía, los sistemas de seguridad,etc. Por otro lado, se debe fomentar la intermodalidad y dentro de ella el ferrocarril juega un papel fundamental.

ABSTRACT: Rail freight is currently in a situation of downturn, which is more pronounced in Spain than in other countries of the European Union. After a period of splendor, the railways lost market share with respect to other modes of transport at the end of the twentieth century and worsened this situation with the start of the economic crisis. It is necessary that the freight trains are subjected to a revitalisation to recover the splendour of past times. The objectives of this project will be: -Analyse the situation of rail freight both nationally and internationally. -Identify the causes that have led to the situation of current decline. -Identify the problems faced by Europe's railways for goods and, in particular, the Spanish. -Address the strategies to adopt for the improvement of the situation and indicate the future opportunities of rail freight transport. The methodology used will be the discussion with the statement of the problems of the freight train and the different strategies that must be addressed in a future. For the realization of this project, the support of different bibliographic sources will be very important. The railroad has numerous advantages over other means of transport for the transit of goods: has lower costs of transport, it is a sustainable means and can carry heavier loads. But today, it has many problems. If you want to regain the lost market share, it should promote interoperability by creating a common European market for freight improving aspects that today are a barrier as the gauge, safety systems, etc. On the other hand, it should be encouraged and within intermodal rail plays a key role.
