Securities valuation and risk premium in financial markets
Authors: Reguera Piñeiro, Omar;

Abstract

ABSTRACT: The objective of this final project is to analyze the possible effects that this economic crisis has exerted over the relation between profitability and the risk with the purpose of determine if we can observe some meaningful differences in the risk premium required by investors before and after the start of the economic crisis, and also if these differences could be related to business sector. The empirical contrast was performed starting from the data’s of the firms, which have listed continually on the Spanish continuous market between 2003 and 2013. These data’s are contained in the database of DataStream data. For getting this, firstly, we have proposed, the detailed study of the current global economic crisis, since its origins in EEUU, its most important trigger, the housing bubble, and its consequences on the Spanish financial system. Then, we have used the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM), which we have developed to determine the profitability adjusted to the investors risk for the sole proprietorship as well as for the sectorial grouping. The risk premium will be estimate as the difference between the historical market performance (in this case IGMB) and the performance of the free risk securities (in this case treasury bills to twelve months). Moreover, we will study the behavior of the betas (β) before and after the start of the crisis, and also the profitability required by the shareholders to check if we can take some important conclusion using the sectorial factor which we have chosen at the beginning.
