El cuidador informal

Abstract

Since recent years, the situation in Spain is an increase in the number of dependents, causing the necessary presence of informal caregiver. However, this character is disappearing increasingly, due to arising changes in family structure and the incorporation of women to work. This role of informal caregiver, may be assumed by family members, friends or neighbors, who have no economic remuneration and no previous preparation; being the caregiver profile, mostly woman. The nurse has a fundamental role in this type of "patient", which is the informal caregiver, providing adequate preparation, through information about quality care to be performed, making early detection of caregiver burden, identifying the related factors; in a nutshell, offering support on all possible aspects, with the aim of improving the quality of life of dependent patient and informal caregiver.
