Abstract

La diabetes es una de las enfermedades crónicas con mayor prevalencia en la actualidad. El gran número de personas afectadas y las complicaciones secundarias a un deficiente control de la misma, suponen a los sistemas sanitarios un elevado consumo de recursos tanto materiales (medicinas, material desechable, etc.) como profesionales (médicos, enfermeros y otros profesionales que forman parte del equipo multidisciplinar). Todo ello se traduce en un coste económico importante para la sanidad. El personal de enfermería desarrolla un papel primordial en la asistencia de esta enfermedad, tanto a nivel educacional como asistencial. En el momento actual, se hace preciso optimizar los recursos sanitarios con el fin de lograr un coste-beneficio asumible para cualquier sistema de salud, dado que los recursos económicos son escasos. Nos planteamos revisar y analizar los avances para el control de la glucemia en pacientes diabéticos, en cuanto a su eficacia así como viabilidad presente y futura.
