RESUMEN La protección a la infancia debe dirigir sus esfuerzos a eliminar las situaciones de malos tratos hacia los menores. Las raíces, creencias y valores históricos y socioculturales constituyen variables de gran peso al enfrentarse a esta problemática. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo llevar a cabo una revisión de la literatura en torno a la violencia familiar, centrándose más específicamente en el maltrato infantil. Se desarrollarán los conceptos más importantes relacionados con esta temática tan compleja y difícil de abordar, partiendo desde definiciones y datos, para continuar abordando algunos factores de riesgo, consecuencias e intervención del maltrato infantil.

ABSTRACT Childhood’s protection must lead its efforts to eliminate situations of minors’ ill treatment. Historical, social and cultural roots, beliefs and principles constitute variables of great weight facing this issue. This work has as aim carrying out a review of the literature about family violence and more specifically about child abuse. The most important concepts related to this topic so complex and difficult to approach will be explained, leaving from definitions and information, to continue approaching some risk factors, consequences and intervention of child abuse.
