Abstract

RESUMEN: La muerte es una realidad inevitable, sin embargo la sociedad actual vive una tendencia a negar la muerte. El progreso y el desarrollo de grandes complejos hospitalarios han determinado que la mayoría de las muertes se produzcan en el hospital. En este contexto, la disciplina enfermera desarrolla su actividad diaria, enfrentándose con la muerte y con el sufrimiento de las personas que pierden a sus seres queridos. El duelo es una reacción normal a la pérdida, y como profesionales debemos proporcionar un soporte emocional adecuado, conocer el proceso de duelo y saber identificar un duelo complicado para ofrecer cuidados de calidad. Además, es importante poseer habilidades interpersonales que nos permitan comunicarnos y ayudar a las personas en duelo. En este trabajo describo el proceso de duelo, centrándome en las estrategias necesarias para un manejo eficaz del duelo en el hospital, tanto del paciente moribundo como de la familia.

ABSTRACT: Death is an inescapable reality, however today society is experiencing a tendency to deny death. Progress and development of large hospital complexes have determined that most deaths occur in the hospital. In this context, the nursing discipline in daily activities, facing death and suffering of people who lose their loved ones. Grief is a normal reaction to loss, and as professionals we must provide adequate emotional support, knowing the grief process and learn to identify complicated grief to provide quality care. It is also important to have interpersonal skills that allow us to communicate and help people in bereavement. This paper describes the grieving process, focusing on strategies for effective management of grief in the hospital, both the dying patient and the family.
