Abstract

El aumento de peso es el cambio más llamativo durante el embarazo. Las mujeres con un normo peso deben aumentar entre 11- 12,5kg. Parte este incremento es debido a las modificaciones fisiológicas que sufre el cuerpo femenino, de los cuales sólo 3,5 kg corresponden a depósitos grasos y el resto lo constituyen el feto, el útero y el incremento de volumen plasmático e intersticial. La ganancia de peso gestacional es un factor de pronóstico importante en los desenlaces de salud a corto y largo plazo, tanto para mujeres en edad fértil como para su descendencia. Durante esta etapa aumentan las demandas de energía y proteínas. En general si la dieta de la mujer gestante es sana, variada, y conserva las adecuadas proporciones entre hidratos de carbono, proteínas y grasas, es más que probable que las necesidades de vitaminas estén cubiertas, excepto en lo que se refiere al ácido fólico. Por lo que se recomienda un suplemento.
