Abstract

Calidad en salud puede parecer en principio un concepto extenso, confuso, subjetivo. Pero se trata de un concepto concreto, claro, medible. Debemos medir nuestra propia actuación como profesionales en la práctica clínica, algo a lo que probablemente no estamos muy habituados ni lo suficientemente formados, pero necesario para realizar las intervenciones oportunas para mejorarla. El uso de indicadores de calidad permite objetivar aspectos relevantes de la asistencia, establecer comparaciones, proponer objetivos y crear una cultura de evaluación y así, una mejora de la asistencia. Esta situación estableció el objetivo de este trabajo, que se centra en abordar cómo a pesar de estar reconocido por la comunidad científica que el 95 % de las úlceras por presión (UPP) son prevenibles, continúan existiendo elevadas cifras de pacientes con UPP en nuestro país. Siendo, por lo tanto, las UPP un indicador de mala calidad asistencial. Su elevada prevalencia y morbilidad repercute sobre el estado de salud y calidad de vida de quienes las padecen, y sobre los servicios clínicos y personal que atienden a estos pacientes. Con el consiguiente impacto familiar, social, laboral, económico y legal. Por eso, para mejorar la calidad asistencial, es necesaria la autoevaluación, tanto a nivel individual, como institucional.
