El duelo perinatal, cuidados de enfermería

Abstract

Perinatal mortality and gestational death represent a significant global public health issue. Each year millions of families are confronted with the loss of a child during pregnancy, childbirth, or in the early days of life. These losses have profound emotional, psychological, and physical repercussions on the affected parents, who often undergo a grieving process that is frequently neither acknowledged nor adequately addressed. Perinatal grief is a very complex process, both for the parents and for the healthcare professionals who care for these cases. Nursing plays a crucial role, not only in providing clinical care but also in delivering emotional and psychological support, which is essential in helping affected individuals cope with the situation. In this context nursing care must be comprehensive and evidence-based, promoting interventions that facilitate the grieving process. The importance of specific and tailored training for professionals who provide this type of care is emphasized, along with the need for standardized protocols that ensure holistic care. Therefore, improvements within the healthcare system are essential to foster the development of specific skills and training that enable professionals to provide better care for patients experiencing such losses.
