Abstract

This doctoral thesis presents an innovative approach to the analysis of bituminous mixtures and the improvement of the durability of road infrastructures. Permanent deformations are predicted and mitigated through an advanced rheological model based on fractional calculus, accurately describing the creep and recovery phenomena of the materials. The model optimises the study of the mechanical behaviour of aggregates, mastics and bituminous binders, detailing the transition between the elastic and viscous states. The model has been validated by rigorous testing, reducing the rheological constants without losing accuracy. The results demonstrate the model's ability to differentiate between aggregate elasticity and binder viscoelasticity. This research lays the basis for the design and development of advanced bituminous materials and their application in the design of more durable and sustainable roads.
