Abstract

From the limited sources available, this chapter aims to determine the location of the Royal Council in the buildings in Valladolid that served as the Royal Palace during the Court’s stays in the city, mainly between 1601 and 1606. When, at an uncertain date, did it move from the Palace of the Counts of Benavente to the Royal Palace (formerly the Palace of Francisco de los Cobos). This is a crucial matter, as the presence of the Council in this space, as well as in the Antechamber and the Royal Chamber itself, allowed one of the functions of the Palatium to be fulfilled: the administrative function, which was as important, if not more so, than the representative function. Obviously, if this administrative dimension is ignored, the understanding of the Palace will be partial and incomplete.
