Abstract

This work is based on the construction of a series of econometric models, where the variables that influence absenteeism at work are studied. Variables such as the mental health of workers, as well as the influence of factors such as bullying, education, or seniority are of great importance when studying it. To do this, an analysis of the existing theoretical framework on absenteeism has been carried out, from its beginnings, the evolution it has had, and the different variables that have been taken into account in studies over time. Secondly, a methodological analysis of the data has been carried out, based on surveys on the working conditions and mental health of workers in different European countries. Taking into account the changes made in the data to obtain econometric studies. Finally, different econometric models have been estimated, taking into account the countries that were studied and gender differentiation. Variables such as bullying, hours spent caring for children, profession, education, and age of the respondents have been included. The results obtained and their significance will be discussed. Absenteeism at work is a phenomenon that has become increasingly complex over time, affecting companies and the economies of countries. Measures should be taken for better work-life balance in order to improve this variable, which should continue to be studied continuously.
