Abstract

El uso del diésel como fuente de energía en el transporte, especialmente en la flota pesquera, presenta varias desventajas significativas tanto a nivel ambiental como económico. La combustión del diésel libera grandes cantidades de gases de efecto invernadero como el dióxido de carbono, óxidos de nitrógeno, además de partículas sólidas. La produccion del diésel es cada vez mas insostenible desde el punto de vista económico debido a la escasez de reservas de petróleo, afectando principalmente al sector de transporte marítimo siendo el diésel su principal combustible. Como solución se plantea la produccion de biodiesel, siendo más sostenible y ecológica, a partir de aceite vegetal usado recogido en Cantabria como alternativa para reducir los impactos negativos del uso del diésel en la flota pesquera, mejorando así la sostenibilidad energética y promoviendo un modelo de economía circular. En este trabajo se plantea la simulación de una planta de producción de biodiésel a partir de aceite vegetal usado. El método propuesto es el de transesterificación del aceite, donde los triglicéridos se convierten en los metilos correspondientes mediante una reacción con metanol en presencia de un catalizador. Previo a este proceso se realizará la esterificación que consiste en la reacción de los ácidos grasos libres con metanol en presencia de otro catalizador para eliminar los ácidos grasos libres, mejorar el rendimiento del proceso y evitar la formación de jabones. Todo este proceso se simulará utilizando en software Aspen Plus determinando los parámetros necesarios y las cantidades proporcionales de cada materia prima a introducir, también se determina la composición del aceite realizando una búsqueda bibliográfica previa.

The use of diesel as an energy source in transportation, particularly in the fishing fleet, presents several significant disadvantages both environmentally and economically. Diesel combustion releases large amounts of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides, as well as solid particles. The production of diesel is becoming increasingly unsustainable from an economic perspective due to the depletion of oil reserves, which primarily affects the maritime transport sector where diesel is the main fuel. As a solution, the production of biodiesel from used vegetable oil collected in Cantabria is proposed as a more sustainable and eco friendly alternative to mitigate the negative impacts of diesel use in the fishing fleet. This approach enhances energy sustainability and promotes a circular economy model. This work involves the simulation of a biodiesel production plant using waste vegetable oil. The proposed method is the transesterification of oil, where triglycerides are converted into their corresponding methyl esters through a reaction with methanol in the presence of a catalyst. Before this process, esterification will be carried out, which consists of the reaction of free fatty acids with methanol in the presence of another catalyst to eliminate the free fatty acids, improve process efficiency, and prevent soap formation. The entire process will be simulated using Aspen Plus software, determining the necessary parameters and the proportional quantities of each raw material to be introduced. Additionally, the oil composition will be determined based on a prior literature review.
