Abstract

Language is a major mechanism for student development and learning. However, a significant proportion of these pupils have disorders, precisely, SLI or DLD. SLI is defined by the absence/late acquisition of language and the existence of linguistic patterns that belongs to inferior evolutionary stages, greatly affecting essential language components as comprehension and expression. Moreover, it may include alterations in social and emotional areas, such as degeneration of social relationships, learning problems, deficiencies in emotional regulation, etc. In this paper, we will describe an intermediation that we carried out with a student with SLI, in order to improve his social/emotional skills. It consisted of the application of an initial/final evaluation based on the Theory of Mind Test and a set of activities designed to improve the four components that make up Emotional Intelligence. The results show that these strategies allows progress in emotional regulation, as well as the involvement of the pupil within his studies. Therefore, we believe it is essential to continue pursuing research in this field, in order to develop a valid response for those who suffer from these disorders.
