Finite topological spaces

Espacios topológicos finitos

Abstract

The present work is a study of finite topological spaces. The basic topological properties of finite topological spaces have been studied: compactness, connectedness, separation axioms and the properties of continuous maps between them. In addition, it has been proved the existence of a one-to-one correspondence between finite topological spaces and finite preordered sets, therefore, both mathematical structures can be considered as equals. Subsequently, it is shown that each finite topological space can be represented graphically via a directed graph and that, furthermore, the finite topological spaces that verify the T0 hypothesis can be represented by a Hasse diagram. These diagrams will be valuable tools to study the homotopy of finite topological spaces, where it will be proved that each finite topological space is homotopically equivalent to a minimal T0 finite topological space. Finally, the Theory of McCord has been studied, in which a simplicial complex is associated to each T0 finite topological space, and it can be defined a weak homotopy equivalence from the geometric realization of the associated simplicial complex to the finite topological space. In the same way, a T0 finite topological space can be associated to each simplicial complex, and a weak homotopy equivalence can also be defined from the geometric realization of the simplicial complex to the associated finite topological space.
