Lesiones por causas externas: accidentes de tráfico

Abstract

Los accidentes de tráfico suponen un problema de salud a nivel mundial. Cada año mueren en el mundo más de 1,2 millones de personas y se producen entre 20 y 50 millones de traumatismos no mortales por esta causa. Con motivo de conocer la situación actual, se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica que recoge los aspectos más destacables del tema; desde los factores de riesgo hasta las consecuencias. El personal sanitario tiene un papel fundamental en el proceso de los accidentes de tráfico, con objetivos como prevenirlos, limitar la gravedad de las lesiones, evitar la muerte y disminuir la incapacidad. Los tipos de lesiones varían según el tipo de accidente. Aunque la clasificación es un tema en el que se está avanzando, aún se requieren sistemas de información integrados que permitan a los profesionales sanitarios intervenir de forma rápida y correcta para disminuir la morbilidad, ya que el trauma grave es uno de los problemas clínicos que más se beneficia de la rápida asistencia. A través de una asistencia extrahospitalaria eficaz, la adopción de políticas públicas pertinentes y el esfuerzo de diferentes organismos en materia de prevención; se puede disminuir de forma notable el impacto del problema a nivel sanitario, económico y psicosocial.
