Abstract

Industrial sludge and leachate treatment plants generate a significant amount of sludge as final process residues. Physical-chemical treatments are the most widely used, generating a solid waste that needs to be managed and a liquid stream whose biological treatment in turn generates an already purified liquid stream and a new solid waste that also needs to be managed. Both solid waste, with different code in the UE List of Wastes, come from a final pressing stage, they are called sludge from industrial wastewater treatment and sludge from biological treatment of industrial wastewater. The objective of this project is the synthesis, analysis and potential evaluation of alternatives for sludges from an industrial plant. Since it is non-hazardous waste in both cases, it is intended to obtain a management alternative for this waste by analyzing all the possibilities to reintroduce it into production processes through the concept of the circular economy and avoiding its deposit in landfills. This is done taking in account the environmental, technical, economic aspects and its feasibility for a possible implementation in the industry.
