Enfermedades tropicales desatendidas

Abstract

ABSTRACT : Neglected tropical diseases (NTD) are a group of diseases with significant morbidity and mortality, mainly in the world's most impoverished populations. They affect more than one billion people and cause around 500,000 deaths per year, in addition to serious sequelae. Despite all this, very few resources are allocated due to the low profitability of investing in them and they are hardly taken into account in global health programs. On the other hand, globalization together with climate change have meant that NTD are not restricted only to these tropical areas but can affect any area of the world. The aim of this paper is, firstly, to present the current global problem of NTD, where we are, what progress has been made and what the main limitations are. On the other hand, it describes those pathologies that most frequently affect Spain and other non-endemic countries, focusing on early diagnosis, treatment and prevention necessary to achieve their control. With all this, this work aims to increase the scarce knowledge about NTD in our environment in order to raise awareness.
