Abstract

ABSTRACT : According to World Health Organization (WHO), obesity is defined as “an unusual or excessive accumulation of fat that can be harmful to health”. For children, it is considered a public health problem which affects developed countries, and it is increasing due to changes in lifestyles. Current studies show several causes that predispose suffering from this disease, such as: changes in diet, moving away from the Mediterranean diet, decreased physical activity and the social and family environment. There has been a large increase in the number of advertisements in the media aimed at children, especially with food. The industry uses all its tools to encourage the public to buy its products while the quality of them worsens. Nurses have a primary role in carrying out weight checks from an early age in Health Centers. In addition, school nurse’s figure should be enhanced because schools are the places where they spend the most time besides their homes.
