Abstract

ABSTRACT: The 12th of March, the World Health Organization declares the COVID-19 disease a pandemic. It was caused by the SARS-CoV2 virus. Giving the rapid propagation, hygienic and social measures are adopted, such us confinement. After the mandatory confinement imposed by governments, which period of time may fluctuate according to country, serious consequences are observed in the population, like a great social and psychological impact. The group of population more vulnerable is the elderly. Various studies show that the quarantine has caused an increase in depression and anxiety. Also, it is seen that, after this period, there is a deterioration in the health of elderly people, and that, people with mild cognitive impairment have a quicker loss of cognitive functions. Moreover, the same issues are evident in the elderly who have passed the disease. For all these reasons, it would be necessary to implement strategies to avoid similar situations in the future, such us the appropriate use of technology, psychosocial interventions to preserve the quality of life before to the pandemic, and psychological programs to promote resilience and confrontation.
