ABSTRACT. This article evaluates the impact of the European structural funds on the Spanish regions over the period 2000-2006. Although the regional distribution of such funds has had a marked redistributive effect, the conduct of various econometric estimations clearly reveals that Community financing, both at aggregate level and for each of the three structural funds analyzed, has not contributed to regional convergence or to the growth (differential) of the Spanish regions; naturally, this introduces new issues for discussion in the design of European regional policy.
