Análisis de convergencia de las regiones europeas

Abstract

ABSTRACT: In the following paper we will carry out a convergence analysis of European regions taking into account two variables, the cumulative growth rate and GDP per capita. This analysis will be divided into two parts: beta convergence and sigma convergence, which will be explained along the text. For this purpose, we will handle and modify a series of databases in order to be able to carry out a reliable analysis. Once this convergence analysis has been carried out, the regions studied will be classified according to their GDP per capita and their growth rate by means of a cluster analysis. This analysis will provide us with a clear and summarized view of the convergence analysis previously performed. The study will be carried out on approximately 200 regions depending on the time span of the analysis. The period to be studied starts in 2000 and will go up to 2019, although we will subdivide this period into three parts (2000-2007; 2008-2013; 2014-2019) to examine the different economic cycles, and how these affected the convergence of the regions. The main idea of the paper is to present as visual and descriptive an analysis as possible of the convergence between European regions with lower purchasing power and those with above-average GDP per capita.
