Abstract

RESUMEN : La carcinomatosis peritoneal consiste en la diseminación tumoral a la cavidad abdominal y los órganos vecinos. De forma mayoritaria tiene su origen en el tumor de ovario, de colon y el tumor hepático. Es una enfermedad que se caracteriza por su elevada recurrencia, así como su diagnóstico en fases muy avanzadas de la enfermedad ya que inicialmente los pacientes se encuentran asintomáticos, lo que hace que sea una enfermedad prácticamente incurable con tratamiento paliativo en la mayoría de los casos. Ante este reto la nanomedicina ofrece varias soluciones, permitiendo un diagnóstico precoz de la enfermedad y tratamientos con unas tasas de toxicidad menores que las alcanzadas con tratamientos convencionales. La aplicación de la nanomedicina en este tipo de enfermedad está adquiriendo una gran relevancia y se espera que forme parte de la práctica clínica de forma rutinaria en un futuro cercano.

ABSTRACT : Peritoneal carcinomatosis consists of tumor spread to the abdominal cavity and surrounding organs. It mainly originates from ovarian, colon, and liver tumors. It is a disease that is characterized by its high recurrence, as well as its diagnosis in very advanced stages since initially the patients are asymptomatic, which makes it a practically incurable disease with only palliative treatment in most cases. Due to this challenge, nanomedicine offers several solutions, allowing an early diagnosis of the disease and low toxicity treatments. The application of nanomedicine in this type of disease is gaining great relevance and is expected to become part of routine clinical practice in the near future.
