Abstract

RESUMEN: El primer brote conocido de virus SARS-CoV-2, causante de la enfermedad COVID-19 se desató en diciembre de 2019 en la ciudad china de Wuhan, desde donde, en menos de 6 meses, se propagó por todo el mundo, lo que desató millones de contagios, confinamientos domiciliarios, saturación de los hospitales con pacientes COVID-19, muertes y la paralización de las empresas. Por lo tanto, desde el 2020 estamos inmersos en una pandemia causada por un virus prácticamente desconocido en humanos. Cuando, a principios de 2020 se desarrolló la primera vacuna procedente del laboratorio Pfizer, se pensó que los problemas en los hospitales y los contagios habían llegado a su fin, pero este descubrimiento trajo consigo otros conflictos. La primera dificultad que presentó la vacuna fue la capacidad de producción del laboratorio, puesto que debía de suministrar dosis a todo el mundo. Esta falta de abastecimiento, unida a las peculiares necesidades de conservación de las dosis, hizo aún más difícil su distribución. Estos viales necesitan una temperatura de -70ºC para su conservación, es decir, una cadena de ultra frío. No todos los países disponen de las infraestructuras necesarias para garantizar esta cadena, lo que provocó desabastecimiento o una recepción tardía de las dosis. En todo el proceso de distribución de las dosis se necesitó, y se sigue necesitando a día de hoy, una rigurosa logística para que no se deterioren las dosis en ninguna etapa de la cadena de suministro desde el laboratorio hasta el punto de vacunación ABSTRACT: The first known outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 virus, causing COVID-19 disease, was unleashed in December 2019 in the Chinese city of Wuhan, from where, in less than 6 months, it spread around the world, which unleashed millions of contagions, home confinements, saturation of hospitals with COVID-19 patients, deaths, and business paralysis. So, since 2020 we are immersed in a pandemic caused by a virus virtually unknown in humans. When the first vaccine from the Pfizer laboratory was developed in early 2020, it was thought that hospital problems and contagion had come to an end, but this discovery brought with it other conflicts. The first difficulty presented by the vaccine was the production capacity of the laboratory, since he was supposed to supply doses to all the countries. This lack of supply, coupled with the peculiar need to preserve doses, made distribution even more difficult. These vials need a temperature of -70ºC for conservation, that is, an ultra-cold chain. Not all countries have the necessary infrastructure to ensure this chain, which led to shortages or late receipt of doses. Throughout the dose distribution process, rigorous logistics were required and are still needed to ensure that doses do not deteriorate at any stage of the supply chain from the laboratory to the vaccination point.
