Abstract

ABSTRACT: In this Final Degree Project, the environmental impact on the marine environment produced by the growing increase in tourist activity and with it, the use of sunscreens is analyzed. First, sunscreen is studied emphasizing the design and manufacturing process of the formulations used that depend both on the characteristics requested by the consumer and on the existing legislation, also commented on the document, prepared by the different regulatory entities of the countries. In addition, the extent to which the innovative eco-friendly products and the use of lignin, as a substitute for synthetic UV filters, are respectful of the environment. Likewise, a process of documentation of the main published scientific works in this field in the last 25 years is carried out, performing sheets of each publication that collect the main characteristics of the experiments, the analysis and modeling of results and the main conclusions obtained. Once the literature has been reviewed, different mathematical models of release of chemical compounds to the environment and the models of interaction with living organisms that allow to explain the adverse effects of these chemical compounds on marine life are described and analyzed. After conducting an exhaustive literature review and not finding any work in which the bioaccumulation of compounds is studied, directly exposing marine living organisms to sunscreen concentrations, a modeling of the bioaccumulation kinetics of Zn is carried out, based on the results of experiments with Ruditapes philippinarum clams exposed to a commercial sunscreen with Zn content.
