Abstract

ABSTRACT: The aim of this work is to provide the reference values representing the population of Cantabria. A sample of 100 healthy individuals aged 2 to 80 years-ole has been recruited. The ultrasound parameters were collected in the 14 anatomical locations proposed in the technique that we have coined "neural map". In addition, a sample of 28 patients with Charcot-Marie-Tooth type 1A (CMT1A) and 28 patients with Guillain Barré syndrome (GBS) were included. As results, the most representative values of the ultrasound parameters for the population of Cantabria are described. The correlations between them and other somatic variables (age, height, BMI, gender, dominant laterality) are also detailed. This will allow to customize the reference values more closely, based on the personal characteristics of the patient being scanned. A comparative study is also carried out between the sample of healthy individuals and each of the two pathological samples, verifying that there are statistically significant differences. A diagnostic tool has been designed to detect cases of CMT1A and GBS by ultrasound.
