The aim of this Final Degree Project is the study of civic matronage in its social facet in Roman Spain; in other words, the female presence not only in the public space but also in the institutional and social networks of the cities of Hispania. For that purpose, this work will study the donation that is documented in greater numbers more often in women than men in the provinces of Hispania: the epula or public banquets. These were an instrument of prestige and formation of the collective memory that allows a first contact to female evergetism and civic gender relations, because these benefactions used to be accompanied by other initiatives, whether an architectural, ornamental or ludic nature. This study will be achieved through the review of the specialized bibliography, as well as primary sources, mainly epigraphic.
