Ictericia neonatal y cuidados de enfermería

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Neonatal jaundice is the clinical and visual sign of increased bilirubin in the blood, causing a yellowing of the newborn's skin. This pathology, which appears very frequently among newborns, is potentially fatal, so early detection and effective treatment is of great importance. During this process, a range of nursing care is required, which is outlined in this document. The purpose of this work is to synthesize the information found after performing a bibliographic search in different databases, such as Pubmed, Scopus, Dialnet or Web of Science. In this way, different relevant concepts about newborn jaundice are detailed, such as the most frequent physiology and etiologies or the different methods of bilirubin measurement, as well as the most used treatments for hyperbilirubinemia at a global level. In addition, the main functions and care to be carried out by the nursing staff during the hospitalization of a newborn with hyperbilirubinemia are highlighted, such as the maintenance of breastfeeding and the bond between parents and newborn, the performance of abdominal massage or care related to phototherapy.
