RESUMEN: Este trabajo trata sobre una de las ramas de la economía del transporte, en concreto, la de transporte de viajeros por carretera, donde vamos a ver qué es y cómo está el sector para continuar con el análisis a fondo de la empresa “Automóviles Luarca SA”, que es la compañía líder de este sector. La empresa se constituyó en 1923 y tras asentarse en Asturias comenzó su expansión por el resto del territorio nacional para posteriormente hacerlo de manera internacional. La situación de la empresa hoy en día es delicada debido al declive del sector y otros factores analizados. Los puntos fuertes de la compañía internamente están basados en que es la líder del sector, como debilidad cuenta con unos costes fijos muy elevados. Externamente tiene la oportunidad de asentarse internacionalmente frente a la amenaza que se genera en España con la aparición de algunos productos sustitutivos. Con todo ello, ALSA tiene opciones de seguir creciendo, pero requiere adaptarse a los nuevos tiempos.

ABSTRACT: This paper deals with one of the branches of the transport economy, namely road passenger transport, where we will see what it is and how the sector is doing in order to continue with the in-depth analysis of the company “Automóviles Luarca SA”, which is the leading company in this sector. The company was set up in 1923 and after settling in Asturias began to expand throughout the rest of Spain and later internationally. The situation of the company today is delicate due to the decline of the sector and other factors analysed. The strengths of the company internally are based on the fact that it is the leader in the sector, while its weakness is the high fixed costs. Externally it has the opportunity to establish itself internationally in the face of the threat in Spain of the appearance of some substitute products. With all this, ALSA has the option of continuing to grow, but it needs to adapt to new times.
