El circo en la Hispania Romana

The Circus in Roman Hispania
Authors: Fidalgo González, Carlos;

El circo en la Hispania Romana

Abstract

ABSTRACT: The work tries to elaborate a synthesis about the Roman circus in Hispania. Special emphasis is placed on the explanation of the architectural remains. The first part is dedicated to ludi circensis, its chronology, the building and in particular the Circus Maximus, the sources that we have for the study of this type of shows, the development of the race, the political use of the circus and its symbolism In the second part, the data we know about the circuses is exposed in order to give a particular vision of each one of them: utility, chronology, geographical location, dimensions, orientation, capacity, excavations carried out and architectural remains that we find. As conclusions there are some key points that are general in all circuses and we talk about peculiar cases.
