Abstract

ABSTRACT: This paper aims to evaluate the bilateral trade determinants of services through the gravitational model. The motivation of this issue is justified by the growing importance of the service sector in international trade and in the countries both developed and developing economies. The model is made with cross section data for the period 2014- 2017, using the bilateral exports of services, expressed in millions of dollars. The main objective is to quantify the impact of these determinants, paying special attention to the variables that refer to the level of restrictiveness in the involved sectors, and in the impact that the Regional Trade Agreements (RTA) in this relationship. This model will be estimated under a gravitational framework and the estimation will be calculated by robust Ordinary Least Squares (OLS). When the results are estimated taking into account all sectors there are some inexpected figures, for example in the variable referring to the services restrictiveness. Therefore, a disaggregated estimate will be made with the sectors used in the sample in order to find discrepancias that may explain the previous results. Once the results have been obtained, it is concluded that the implementation of certain trade policy is determined by the heterogeneity of the sectors considered since the effects of these policies will not be the same depending on the sector considered.
