El gnosticismo cristiano: ofitas y naasenos

Abstract

ABSTRACT This Master’s Thesis focuses on the study of Christian Gnosticism, one of the main heretical groups in Antiquity in the second and third centuries. Simultaneously with the development of Christian dogma, gnosticism emerged proposing interpretations that differed from the orthodox view. In an attempt to unmask and eradicate heresy, heresiologists, that is those theologians who fighted dissidents, afford a rich documentation to study Gnosticism. In addition, direct sources such as the Nag Hammadi manuscripts are an important resource, which complements the information provided by heresiologists. In this TFM two gnostic groups are studied: the Ophites and the Naassenes. Both are characterized by performing an allegorical exegesis of the Old Testament, specifically offering a new interpretation of the first chapters of the book of Genesis, where the figure of the serpent, conceived in a positive way as a source of knowledge, plays a key role.
