Abstract

ABSTRACT: Adolescence is a critical period of transition in human’s life. In this period, the reproductive capacity is reached, and pregnancy is one of the main public health problems around the world. 95% of pregnancies in adolescence occur in developing countries and they are the second cause of death in people between eleven and twenty-four years old around the world. Pregnancy in adolescence is determined by three main factors: early marriage, coerced sex and lack of access to family planning. On the other hand, the main consequences are the psychological impact, increased number of school abandonment, high risk abortion and increased maternal mortality. The interventions to be made must be focused on woman empowerment and acting on policies which protect universal rights for developing a quality, affordable and accessible maternal and children health service
