RESUMEN: El Jurado es una institución que ha sido siempre bandera de la democracia y la libertad y que a lo largo de su agitada historia ha levantado las más cruentas pasiones tanto por parte de sus detractores como de sus admiradores. El objeto de este trabajo es el análisis del recorrido de esta institución a lo largo de la historia de nuestro país, desde su primera mención en el Estatuto de Bayona de 1808 hasta la moderna Ley Orgánica de 1995 que lo regula actualmente. Su finalidad es poder permitirnos estar en situación de poder comprender y reflexionar acerca de las causas que le permitieron estar vigente, y a su vez las que provocaron sus respectivas suspensiones y derogaciones. Todo ello gracias al gran volumen de información sobre la institución que nos ha llegado gracias a los escritos de intelectuales, memorias fiscales, discursos de diputados y demás documentos de la época.

ABSTRACT: The Jury is an institution that has always been a symbol of democracy and freedom, and the level of passions that it has aroused throughout its troubled history has reached both its detractors and admirers. The aim of this essay is to analyse the journey of this institution throughout the history of our country, since its first official mention in the 1808 Bayonne Statute until the modern 1995 Organic Law that currently regulates the matter. The purpose is to allow ourselves to understand and to reflect on the causes that once let it in force and also led to the suspension and repeal of the Jury. All thanks to the large amount of information that has been preserved, such as writings of the intellectuals of the time, public prosecutors document, speeches by members of the Parliament and other valuable historical documents.
