La Deuda española

Spanish Debt

La Deuda española

Abstract

ABSTRACT: In this work analyses the evolution of Spanish debt from 2007 to 2016. During the first few years of the year, the global economic downturn caused both percentage and total GDP declines, a sharp increase in the unemployment rate, a significant variation in public spending, which has been reduced, and the evolution of Spain's public deficit, which is of concern to the Eurozone. In addition, it can be observed that the Spanish business fabric is mostly promoted by small and medium-sized companies that have suffered a significant setback. Another important indicator for the country is the risk premium, which is seen as an indicator of the quality of a country's debt relative to German debt. In the absence of liquidity, the state seeks to finance itself by issuing debt, thus increasing its debt and even exceeding its GDP. Spain's performance is also compared with that of other countries such as Ireland, Portugal and Greece, in which it’s GDP, unemployment rate and debt growth are analysed to see their influence on the risk premium. By pooling the countries mentioned, it is concluded that they took similar measures by issuing debt, then reducing their public spending, adjusting their economic data and trying to return to growth and regenerate employment in order to regain stability, which is reflected in the risk premium. Some countries have not yet recovered and are experiencing difficulties such as Greece, which had a significant public waste, Portugal had problems of wealth generation that are being corrected, but others have already overcome the setback like Ireland, as its problem was only financial. In Spain, the recession remains a sign of recession, as it was not only a financial problem but also a structural one, but the macroeconomic data of recent years have improved the level of debt to GDP.
