El trastorno límite de personalidad

Abstract

El Trastorno Límite de Personalidad es un trastorno mental grave con una elevada prevalencia dentro de los trastornos de personalidad. Su prevención, detección y tratamiento serán elementos clave para su pronóstico, evolución y consumo de recursos. Existen varios modelos etiológicos para explicar este trastorno, pero el más apoyado actualmente es el multifactorial. Por otro lado, la sintomatología es muy abundante, variable y compleja, lo que dificulta el proceso de elaboración de un plan de prevención, así como la instauración de un tratamiento. Los recursos sanitarios existentes actualmente para abordar este trastorno van dirigidos a ciertos grupos de síntomas, empleándose como tratamiento inicial la psicoterapia y, en algunos casos, el uso de psicofármacos. Por otro lado, el establecimiento de una buena alianza terapéutica, así como el trabajo en equipo, serán unos requisitos para poder conseguir una buena adherencia al tratamiento, ya que, debido a la complejidad e inestabilidad propia del trastorno, ésta se ve influenciada negativamente. Por ello, será necesario disponer de información actualizada acerca del trastorno, para ser capaces de conocer los aspectos generales, los recursos disponibles y las formas de abordaje, y así tener más posibilidades de conseguir una buena adherencia terapéutica y la estabilización de estos pacientes.
