Abstract

ABSTRACT: Economic crisis has had adverse effects on employability, especially in the case of women. If we talk about public employment, legislation indicates that there´s theoretically gender equality, something that doesn´t happen in the private sector. The public sector has been affected by different austerity policies, reducing the possibility of access to public employment. The objective of this work is to know how it has been affected during a specific period of the economic crisis (2011-2017) the Spanish public sector and, in particular, if it has affected more women. The results obtained show that female employment in the public sector hasn´t been affected to a greater extent that men. However, it´s observed that before and after the crisis there´s intense gender segmentation, also in the public sector; women are concentrated in certain occupations while they´re absent from other. On the other hand, there´s a glass ceiling, reflected in the lower presence of women in management positions in the public sector. These are two issues of relevance that State must work to ensure full gender equality in the public sector.
