Abstract

La hemorragia postparto se sitúa como la principal causa de muerte materna en el mundo. En nuestro país la hemorragia postparto ocasiona el 23% de la mortalidad materna. Existen múltiples definiciones de la hemorragia postparto; generalmente se conoce como una pérdida de sangre de al menos 500 ml. en un parto vaginal y 1000 ml. en una cesárea. Las principales causas de la hemorragia postparto son la atonía uterina, alteraciones placentarias, el traumatismo genital y las alteraciones en la coagulación. Existen una serie de factores de riesgo identificados que aumenta la probabilidad de la mujer para sufrir una hemorragia postparto. El tratamiento incluye medidas de soporte vital y actuaciones encaminadas a la detección y resolución de la causa de la hemorragia. El tratamiento etiológico de la hemorragia postparto se realiza de forma escalonada desde las medidas no invasivas, hasta el tratamiento quirúrgico como última opción. La enfermería es el personal sanitario que se encuentra en contacto directo en la paciente durante el puerperio. Por tanto, son las encargadas de realizar la vigilancia de la aparición de posibles complicaciones, así como de la detección, activación del protocolo y manejo inicial en caso de hemorragia postparto.
