Análisis Autoridades Portuarias Islas Canarias

Abstract

ABSTRACT: The aim of this work is to carry out a comparative analysis of the Port Authorities (AAPP) of the Canary Islands and their evolution in the last decade, where they have undergone the economic changes produced in the whole world market before possibly the most complicated crisis of the last time. In order to carry out this objective, an individual analysis of each port has been carried out, both for the AP of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and those of the AP of Las Palmas, based on the traffic of goods, passengers, containers , Bulk, infrastructures, cranes and regular sea connections. In addition, secondly, a comparative analysis of all ports has been carried out to obtain an overall view. The results obtained have allowed us to detect the specialization existing in the A.A.P.P. The supremacy in passenger traffic, liquid bulk and solids of the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, is countered by the port of La Luz in terms of container traffic and general merchandise. Both interspersed the first position in the different types of traffic. However, in the passenger traffic, the port of Los Cristianos experienced an appreciable growth, due to its tourism boom until reaching the second position, displacing the port of Light even from the third position where the port of La Gomera is located. Such an exhaustive analysis also allows us to clearly see the upward trend in ro / ro traffic, containers, where investment in new infrastructures has helped as well as a decrease in bulk traffic. The general merchandise underwent an ascent until arriving at a stabilization in the same way that the passenger traffic in which the port of La Gomera joined the two main ones. Moreover, we consider that the following work allows determining the versatility of the islands to face the current economic difficulties.
