El benestar emocional dels docents

Abstract

The work of the teacher, subject to constant contact with students, other colleagues and the family environment, can become a profession that leads to emotional exhaustion. A loss of emotional well-being, apart from the negative consequences on the teachers' own health, will have negative effects on the teaching-learning process of their students, while entailing an economic burden on the education system. A correct management of emotions, enhancing those that have a greater positive effect, without neglecting negative ones will lead to a situation of emotional balance and the risk of suffering burnout will be reduced. Based on the results of a survey among a sample of eighteen teachers from Girona school, the correlation of the school's well-being variables on the indicators of burnout syndrome has been studied. These correlations have been statistically significant between the variables of Health State and Emotional Exhaustion; and between Self-fulfilment and lack of personality. The field study has been complemented with three interviews with education professionals to learn about different strategies for managing emotional well-being. With the results obtained, it can be concluded that a high level of well-being minimizes the risk of burnout.
